In a cross country league for children, each race is a fun blend of running and scoring points, making it easy for anyone to grasp. Here’s the lowdown:
- Races: Kids run a set course, typically there’s only uneven ages in Meaths so it’s less complicated-every year each age group gets a chance to be in their own age. U12s run up in an U13 race and U14s in U15.
- Placements: After each race, runners are ranked based on their finish positions with points. It’s impossible to not collect points for the club regardless of how you run.
- Points System: Points are awarded based on where they place in the race. First place might get 1 point, second place 2 points, and so on—lower points are better. So it’s strength in numbers & a great chance for kids to get a taste for competition without the pressures of regular events.
- Club Scores: The Meaths have 3 leagues each calendar year, the cross Country league (November & December)the indoor league in Blanchardstown (usually January & February )and the outdoor league in the summer (April, May & June). Each club is asked to bring as many members as possible to help secure team’s valuable points (for example, top 5 runners).
- Season Standings: Over each season, points from multiple races are tallied to determine overall standings.
So, kids are competing in mini-adventures, and just like in golf, and working as part of a team while competing individually.
We ask as many as possible to attend the next league which is taking place in Trim Porchfields this date next month.
Day 2 will be in St Brigids AC Oldcastle on Sunday 8th December and Day 3 Saturday 14th December in Ardbraccan Bohermeen.
Any children who attends all 3 leagues we will receive a special reward on our end of season awards 🎅night Tuesday 17th December 7-8pm before we break for Christmas. 😉🏆
We hope to present our club medals 🥇 won over the last weekend that evening and recognise our athletes who excelled in their chosen field/ track events .
