Hi All
We hope everyone enjoyed their break and are well rested over the summer.
Due to coaching availability and increased membership numbers we have made some adjustments to the upcoming training season.
The youngest group our Green 🟢1st class children will train on Tuesdays only from 7-8pm and this will be reviewed at the Halloween break.
Our youngest throwers are now in their OFF season so their training will resume mid September and focus will be on strength and conditioning in the gym.

Cross Country (Xcountry) is now the focus for the other groups until the Meaths & leagues have taken place - Sunday 29th September, Sunday 6th October & 10th November.
The expectation is that ALL running athletes take part in the Meaths and league as they will be representing Fr Murphys AC and this is where they can really show off their hard work from training and getting fit.
Below is a summary of the 3 seasons of athletics where we cater for all abilities from ages 8+ (U9)
Hopefully this is helpful for everyone to plan ahead
- Season: autumn -September-December
- Environment: Races are held outdoors on natural terrain, such as grass, dirt, and trails. Meaths are held in Navan Adventure Centre
- Distances: Vary, but usually range from 500m for U9 to 3.5km to U17+
Track and Field
Indoor Track and Field
- Season: Winter. January- April
- Environment: Held indoors, typically in a climate-controlled arena.
- Track Size: 200 meters per lap.
- Events: Includes sprints, middle-distance, long-distance races, hurdles, relays, and field events like high jump, long jump, and shot put. Distances are 60m, 100m & 200m for sprints.
Outdoor Track and Field
- Season: Spring and early summer. May- August
- Environment: Held outdoors, subject to weather conditions.
- Track Size: 400 meters per lap.
- Events: Similar to indoor track but includes additional events like the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400-meter hurdles, 3,000-meter steeplechase, javelin, discus, and hammer throw (U13+ for hammer & discus)
Whilst training will still run Tuesdays & Thursdays, Tuesdays will be for all abilities and Thursdays will have a more technical focus aiming to give individualised coaching to children who are committed to compete in their respective events.
We are actively recruiting additional coaching assistants to help with the younger groups & would encourage parents to consider volunteering to help us run the sessions. We will have an open night for parents to observe their children’s progress mid October for each age group.
