The indoor athletics competition season for juveniles in Ireland (U9 to U18) typically runs from late January to early March. Here's a general overview:
- Age Categories: Competitions are divided into different age groups, U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14, U15, U16 and junior which is U17 & U18 combined
- Competitions: There are various competitions throughout the season, including local, regional, and national events. Some notable events include the National Indoor Championships and the Indoor Meath Championship.
- The Meaths take place on 7th February for uneven ages and the 28th Feb for even ages.
- Qualification: Athletes often need to qualify for the national championships by participating in and performing well in regional competitions- Leinsters.
- We hope to send an number of relay teams to Leinster indoors this year in Athlone in March.
- Events: Common events include sprints, middle-distance races, long-distance races, hurdles, high jump, long jump, & shot put for indoor. There is weight for distance for U20 athletes (junior) only.
- Training: Athletes typically train twice a week in the lead up to indoors focusing on improving their skills and performance for the competitions. For field events like long jump and high jump, coaches will give feedback regarding their athletes performance and only enter athletes meeting a minimum standard in competency for their safety.
- Starting blocks are compulsory for U12 upwards in sprints

For athletes who wish to compete at the upcoming country championships, a contribution of €2 per event will be required to secure their registration.
Coaches will be sharing a poll and the link to confirm your child’s attendance next week. Registration closes on 29th Jan for the Night 1 (uneven ages) and 16th Feb for Night 2 (even ages)
